One of the protoypes that Froglet Games was creating. Happy Rails is an app game for kids where you ride on your fully customized train through storybook worlds in a point and click adventure that reveals a narrative.
The overall vision for Happy Rails was pretty clear from the beginning, though we had a very small staff working on this prototype since Froglet was working on other ideas in paralell. I created the overall aesthetic guidelines for each world that was themed to a different classic setting (cowboys, pirates, fantasy). I also developed the papercraft style for the loading and end of level UI and was personally responsible for the illustration elements of each loading screen. They were based on the theme of each world and I love how they turned out! So cute!
I love cute and whimsical, so this was a blast to work on! Even though Happy Rails wasn't chosen to move forward, I'm still proud of what we were able to complete.

Loading Screens
The papercraft style lent itself well to the UI, menus, and loading screens. We wanted to keep it playful, light, and entertaining for kids while they waited for the game to load. This was a fairly inexpensive way to get a unique look from the often bubbly look of app games but remaining appealing to kids. The animation was also simple, yet affective! This set is one of my favorite contributions to the project!

These postcards are concepts for the end of level summary. They were to be themed after the classic American postcards of the 40's and 50's. I was only ever able to do the two above, since Froglet decided to shift focus a short time after these were created.
